I learned about the contest a few days before the deadline, but knew right away I would enter. The biggest reason? FEEDBACK.
It’s not often a writer gets valuable feedback from an editor. So I’m told. The truth is, I don’t think I’ve ever submitted anything to a contest in my adult life. Shame on me.
Proverbs 31 Ministries, through COMPEL, their amazing writer’s training ministry, hoped to give each writer editorial feedback.
So when I opened the email during the middle of a school-at-home Wednesday, and it said ~ Angela, you won, as well as a couple paragraphs of positive feedback from the editor, I could not stop crying.
My kids sat there, confused.
Mom, what’s wrong?…But isn’t this a good thing, Mom?…I think this is a good thing!
This good thing is a blessing to me, and I’ve been praying it will bless others also. Click here to read my devotion, The Slavery of Striving.
Have a beautiful end-of-October weekend!

Good morning, Angela – A friend sent me the photo you shared today with the encouraging words about “being enough.” I’m going to be the Director for a teen girls Christian retreat weekend in March – the organization is called, “Vida Nueva.” God started speaking to me in January 2013 – told me to start writing some things down. The first thing was the word “Enough” then within a day or two it was, “More than enough.” It’s too long a story to go into now, but I started asking Him – Is the “Enough” thing for ME or is it the theme you are preparing for the future (I already had a sense that I would be asked to be a Director in the near future). The answer is – BOTH! Over the past couple of months, people that know about the weekend coming up in March 2015 have been sending me articles, photos with encouraging words, etc. all around “Enough.” Yours for today was sent by my friend soooo timely! I have been trying to fine-tune, narrow down the focus – I felt like this today nails it!! God bless you and thank you for writing about His love for us. I would like to ask you something if you could email me. Thanks.

Yes, I just sent you an email. Thank you for your comment! So neat to hear how God is speaking this word to you, and I’m thrilled to be a part of that.

Hey friend, I saw this come through a couple days ago. This devotion was great and how awesome is it that Proverbs 31 picked it up! Great Job! I can’t imagine your excitement when you found out they were going to be running this blog post. It’s neat how timely it rolls with Lysa’s new book “The Best Yes”.
I hope you have a great day!

Thank you so much, Holly! I read The Best Yes also a couple months ago, and learned so many things from it. Wow. Lysa is an incredible teacher. I took about 10 pages of notes. 🙂
